Question Furnace constantly blows cold air

(In the basement) My 16 year old Ruud/Rheem forced air gas furnace blows continually but the igniter will not heat up. It's making a squeeking/rattling noise; even when I disconnect the wires to the thermostat. It was working fine until 7am this morning, the heating element just went out. I've cleaned the ducts and changed the filters.
How do I stop the fan from blowing and get the heating element to ignite?
