heatpump freon line vibration
#1
Last year I installed a new Rheem 13 seer heat pump for our upstairs addition. The A/C cycle worked great all summer. When I turned the heat on, it was shuting off every five minutes and needed to be reset each time. Our repairman said it was overfilled with freon so he removed several pounds and it's working but now the 50 ft. copper coil from the outside compressor to the upstaris exchange vibrates and buzzes throughout the whole house. When I switch back to A/C the unit works fine. Any suggesting to quite this unit during the heat cycle are appriciated.

Sounds like you have non-condensibles in the system. Did you vacuum the system down to a min. of 500 microns? And did the service man who removed the freon, recover, vacuum and install new freon? Air will cause vibration and give you high pressure readings on both liquid and suction lines.

To start with you stated "You installed" the HP.If so was it a package unit? with all precharge lines or did you braze the joints together?HP'S are very critical on the exact charge. If you did braze did you run a nitrogen purge thru the system when doing so?As mention by the other TECH a good vacuum is a NECESSITY!!!Charts should be supplied with the new unit to accurately WEIGH the charge in with a digital scale. One thing to check. You stated a 50' coil of tubing, this coil must be coiled horizontally(as if was a tire laying on the ground).NOT as a tire standing upright. If is like a tire standing upright you will trap oil in all the low spots.Hope I've been of some help!!!???PDF
