Anyone got an answer? I have a hot water oil furnace that won't turn on downstairs. the upstairs (bedrooms) thermostat works fine! The downstairs (liv.rm, kitchen, library, etc. is a programable and has a 9v. battery backup for settings. I have checked out the transformer on the furnace with a voltmeter and I get a reading of 24.7 volts AC. This is wired through the floor to the thermostats I presume the one brown strand goes to both. Maybe a split somewhere? I get no reading on the red and white wires on the main level where the programable thermostat is hooked up! Can there be a break somewhere? I have tried swopping thermos. No luck! Upstairs is fine plenty of hot water through the baseboards! Can I run new wire to the main level from the transformer (24.7 v. AC) or will this confuse the furnace? All worked fine last heating season. Must fix ASAP nights are getting cooler!!!!! PLease help me with your best shot, I appreciate your input! Triumphman & Family

Hey all, I have done some serious research and I think that I'm ready, ready to install my own furnace. I had a 'traned professional' come into my home, and give me a out of this world price of $5200 to install a furnace in my home (before taxes). Now with some luck, I found out that I can purchase a trane xv95 for about $1700 bucks and with all materials, it'll be less than $2000 for the parts. Now I am an electrician and I have more that enough common sense so I think that I can install everything, the internet can answer any question that I have. Of course I want someone to inspect the gas line and I cannot build the tin works up to the duct work. So the question is, should I be scared to do it myself?
