Lennox repair problems

Hi - The house I bought 4 years ago has a Lennox 80MGF3/4100A-6 gas furnace, about 12 years old. In those 4 years, I have replace the circuit board twice and the motor once for a total repair cost of $1100. Is this normal for these high-air-speed units? I have a quote for a non-Lennox replacement at $2800.

In my old house, over 28 years I had one motor failure and was able to replace it for less than $100 with a hardware store version.

What would you suggest?

Why get a new one now, after you put those new parts in it?

Unless you have been thinking about strictly from a higher efficiency point of view, and have done cost payback analysis.

Lennx Circut board failures

Thanks for your comments ecman`!

My frustration is that I have had 2 board failures in the last 3 years, which cost me $900.

If I wait until the next failure, I may have to replace the board again while waiting for my installer to schedule a furnace replacement.
And, predictably a failure will occur on a weekend during the winter months.

What I would like to know is...

Are these repair costs normal for a 10-12 year old furnace?

And more importantly, would one get better electronics with a newer model or alternate make?

My suspicion is that when this manufacturer went to the circuit board logic for control purposes, the boards they used were either poorly designed or badly made.

Have others experience this exponential increase in repair cost?
