Pilot light doesn't stay lit

I've done ALOT of reading and think that I have my problem figured out, just want to run it by you all here.

Pilot light was lighting but was weak, cleaned pilot tube, and orifice, now have a good flame. Gas turned to on but pilot light goes out when thermostat calls for heat. Replaced thermocouple with a new one, same problem exists. I am suspecting my control valve is bad.

OLD Carrier unit with Essex SX211 control valve:
211-221000-1307B
I-8 set> 3.5 in.> 3 cu. ft. filter> 25V 60hz> Time delay open>
Cust No, Q1.3590C
Any ideas where to source one, or am I on the wrong track.

Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
Rob

What lights the pilot? Or do YOU have to light it? If you do, then it has a pilot setting? And if left there, let's say, the pilot will stay on? But as soon as you switch it to ON, with a call for heat, the pilot then goes out?

And IF this is right so far, does the burner come on, even for a split second, and snuff out the pilot? Or does simply the call for heat snuff it before any burner even comes on?

I'm reading this....you light the pilot and you let up on the knob to turn to on position and pilot goes out,,right? If yes the valve power unit is bad and the valve needs to be replaced. That isn't uncommon for those Essex valves.

When gas is turned to the "on" position it will stay lit, until the thermostat calls for heat, then the pilot goes out immediately the burner does not ignite at all. I put a multimeter on the solenoid valve and it has 24V at the point the pilot goes out.
