need help with furnace filter

need help with furnace filter

moved into a older home over the summer
and my really old fedders (i,m assuming over 30 years old) furnace works well but has no filters in it
where do the heck they go and how i determent the size i need? , if they still make it anymore
i don't see a model number
the main duct comes out the top of the unit
the house gets really dusty when i turn it on

Most furnaces have some sort of slots or rack inside the blower compartment for the filter.

i still don't see anything like that in the blower compartment
i am stumped

Friend had an old updraft (?) furnace. Had a repair guy tell him, "oh, no filters in that unit. You should have a filter grille in the house".

Well I could hear it struggling when the fan was on. Took the cover off the blower compartment, then the next cover down and there was his filter, with about an inch of dust and lint built up on it. Maybe 5 min and 6 screws.

Take the covers off and look for some parallel rails that a 1" filter would slide into. They would be on the suction side of the fan somewhere. Any labels may have long since fallen off.

EDIT: If you post pics one of the Pro's may be able to tell you where to look.
