ford oil fired water heater model 3016e replacement
i have a 15 year or older ford oil fired water heater. it works fine BUT i am wondering about replacement options. There is some surface rust on the exterior sheetmetal . The burner runs fine and it heats water just fine.
Can you just remove the burner and install it on another storage tank? or just buy a whole new unit? How much are the new units installed? How Long do these units last before you should replace and what should i look for if it is starting to go bad?

If you like to do stuff yourself, I'd consider replacing the anode in the water tank. That might extend the life of the tank a number of years.
They can be something of a SOB to get out. A piece of pipe on the end of the biggest wrench you have to serve as a cheater bar can help.
