Trane XE90 igniter doesn't work.."polarity problem"...hah!
I was gone for three weeks. Furnace was working when I left
but not when I got back. The draft inducer fan comes on, the
igniter doesn't ignite, the draft fan goes off and the circulator
comes on and blows cold air thru the ductwork infinitum. The
indicator light blinks 6 times indicating a "polarity" problem.
There is a little notice on the furnace saying that the igniter
will not work if the polarity is reversed. No electrical work of
any kind was performed while I was away. I am suspicious of
the polarity thing because I had just such a problem with
another furnace three or four years ago. Lights say polarity
problem, furnace man says get an electrician. There was no
polarity problem, I'm pretty sure the problem was the igniter
which took three weeks to get. So, I have gotten a new ig-
niter from Trane, the new improved sulfur nitride, or some
such, and installed it. Draft inducer comes on, igniter glows
cheerily, burners light up and all is fine. I go away for two
days, come back and igniter does not ignite and six lights
are blinking again. This is my first post. Show me what
you're made of out there...

You seem to be talking about two separate problems three or four years apart and its not clear which of your comments address which situation.
You appear to have three separate situations to describe:
1) what happened several years ago
2) what happened when you got the six blinks and had the repairman inspect the equipment
3) what happened after you replaced the ignitor and the problem recurred.
Perhaps you can address each of those specifically so it will be clear what your comments are addressing. Right now I can't sort it out with confidence, and guessing is likely to add to the confusion.

Test the ignitor. And test the volts in the wires supplying it. Then let us know what you found.
IF the new ignitor went bad already, you may have damaged it installing it or handling it with sweaty fingers.
