TempAir Furnace Blower
The fan keeps gradually sliding to the left until it rubs against the cowling creating an annoying noise.
I've tried loosening the collar on the rod, pushing the fan back, retightening. This only is temporary.
The central rod itself ( which I presume goes thru the fan and directly into the motor shaft ) seems to have slid to the left.
How to fix???

There are all kinds o0f odd ball problems that can occur in mechanical equipment. In many years as a furnace repairman, I've never encountered the problem your describe.
But it sounds like a fan motor that is damaged --- failed bearings might allow the motor shaft to move around like that.
Possibly you could fix a clamp of the shaft to hold things in place. Something like that might be worth a try, and perhaps someone else will have a bright idea.
The sure fix is to replace the fan motor.

Thanks, Seattle Pioneer. I'll wait for a warmer day and remove the motor. If there's no way of securing the fan core rod I'll spring for a new motor. thanks again... Geriatric
