ingition problem?

Miller MOC 80 Heat Gun FS-LS burning Kero in a modular

After a 4-5 hour time of not running, unit will not automatically start. Unit needs to be reset one or two times before it will light. This initial lighting will produce heavy smoke and about 20 seconds of shaking and then run like normal (until t-stat is set low where heat won't go on for the day). Tank has healthy ammount of fuel and I only need one more season out of this unit before new house is built. What should I look for/where do I start?

Sounds like you need a new oil nozzle and electrode cleaning and adjustment new oil filter as well.
The rumbling comes from excess oil in the bottom of the heat exchanger from pushing the reset excessively.
If you are not well versed in oil service it is time to call a pro.
Oil go boom.

Thanks Skip. Got heater from my shop for the night and will be making a phone call in the morning.
Nozzle makes sense. No clean pattern from nozzle=no light=oil on burner box floor that when it does light burns smokey.

Oil go Boom?

Oil won't even think of going boom as quickly as gas.

I suspect the electrodes or igniton transformer. Lighting after resetting once or twice is classic ignition problem. The fact rumbles & smokes tells me it is getting fuel. Fouled nozzles are not unheard of with kero, but no where near as common as with fuel oil.
