Squirrel cage - Blower wheel questions

1) My blower wheel has started to rust, possibly due to a ne humidifier I had installed. When do you normally replace a blower wheel? The price online is about $150.

2) Can I assume that a new blower wheel would arrive properly balanced?

3) Should the collar of the blower wheel be installed as close to the motor as possible, while allowing it to turn freely?

Yes it will be balanced, and ready to go.

The squirrel cage(blower wheel) gets centered in the housing. Before installing it back in furnace, you want to rotate the wheel by hand applying fore and aft pressure to the shaft at same time (due to end play in the bearings), making sure it does not rub on the housing, since often even with new blowers, the wheel can wobble some.
