Generator power and newer furnaces

We just had a new Lennox furnace installed and are thinking about getting a generator to get us through numerous power failures. I've heard that generators can output "dirty" power and that it can beat up some electronics. Since the newer furnaces have electronic controls do I need to look at the inverter generators or will a garden variety unit work?

Thanx - Rick

Unless you are installing a whole house standby unit of 10 kW or more you do want an inverter generator. Honda is the gold standard but Yamaha is also of very high quality for a little less money.
