Carrier furnace working intermitently
My Carrier 58PAV111-12 furnace started giving me some grief a few weeks ago. Occasionally the furnace would throw 1-4 and than 3-4 code. Trying to look for the possible problem, I would take the front panel off and put it back on which would help. This morning it did it again, and w woke up in a cold home. Resetting it by taking the front panel off helped again, but I had to do this 3 or 4 times, playing with the wires inside a bit (wiggling and pushing on the connectors). Does anybody have an idea what could be causing such an intermittent problem?
Thanks in advance.

The manual for your furnace is at:

The Carrier diagnostic codes can be found by paging down on this thread:

The furnace burners are being given the opportunity to light but if they light, the flames aren't being detected.
The most common cause for this is a flame sensor covered with an invisible coating of oxides that need to be cleaned.
The flame sensor is on the opposite side of the furnace from the hot surface ignitor. It's a smalll rod that sticks up into the area of the main burner flames, and has a wire coming off the bottom going back to the circuit board.
Take the flame sensor out and clean it with a wire brush to remove the oxides.
This should be done each year as routine maintenance to avoid this kind of problem.
