Central cooling was included with a heating upgrade to our home. The cooling fan unit is outside of the house. Should this be protected from snow?

Not really, it is made to be outdoors and snow won't harm it. Although covering it in the winter will keep it shiny new longer. If you cover it MAKE SURE YOU UNCOVER IT BEFORE YOU USE IT, DAMAGE WILL OCCUR.

1 exception

fjrachel is CORRECT!!!! Thousands of window shakers and outdoor units are ruined each year.Whether it's you,the wife or the kids someone will start the a/c up and forget about the cover. One exception.....if your installer placed it strategicaly under that big eave.So as spring rolls around, that big slab of snow and ice just happens to hit the fan guard and blade JUST right. If that's the case those covers won't help.PDF
