Furnace will not fire up
I have a Utica gas fired boiler.Model # is MGB125HD. It has a Field Control (gas vent damper).
My problem is that when I call for heat,I hear a click, but, the burners do not come on. In the past,I am pretty sure that when a call for heat was placed, the vent damper would open followed by the burners coming on. Well, the damper is not opening.
Is the damper bad? Anyone have an idea before I call someone?
PS: On the damper, there is a survice switch that is set on automatic. Is it safe to set the switch the other way which will open the damper? Can I then put in a call for heat to see if the burners fire up?

Yes, the damper should open.
The trouble is, if you make a mistake on a vent damper you could wind up with the combustion gasses coming in the house.
Not something I care to offer DIY advice on.

Soooo,I moved the service switch on the damper to "hold open". I then put in a call for heat which opened the damper followed by the burners, and then, heat. I then turned down the thermostat, the burners stopped, and the damper closed.
I then set the service switch to "automatic",put in a call for heat, but, the damper did not open which did not allow the burners to come on.
Is it safe to say the gas vent damper is bad? Ideas?
