My electric hot water heater used to produce enough water for a couple or showers consecutively.. now we are rushing to get through one shower.. what might be the problem?

Elements

Most electric HWH are set to bring on the upper element first for a faster recovery. One of your elements is bad.Write down the model and serial and wattage.........replace BOTH elements.Turn power off 1st,hook a garden hose to the bottom tank fitting, drain the tank.REMEMBER POWER OFF.You will need a good tool set to remove old elements.Make a diagram, color code or mark wires you removed for easier replacement.Electric HWH also have a manual reset,a red button.AFTER TURNING the power off remove the 2 cover plates and insulation.Push on the red button and see if you notice a "CLICK".REMEMBER WHAT YOU DO to turn water back onto heater and open hot water faucets to make sure tank is full of water.P.S.......AN after thought,of course turn the water supply valve off to the HWH before opening the system or removing elements.PDF
