My furnace is now set where the flames go for about twenty seconds, then die down. How can I set it to flame up for longer periods of time?. I've heard about the 'switch, may need new one.
I found out that this is my furnace 'limit switch', which times how long the flames should 'flame up',

DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I understand what your saying, the flame comes on like they should, but the flame is still there but just barely. If this is the case your gas valve or the pressure to it is too low.The pressure to the manifold will either be 4 or so inches for nat. gas or 10 or so for propane.Does the flame go completely out?PDF

The 'switch' sounds alittle avantgard. What is it? There are quite a few switches on a furnace and many different styles of burners. Need abit more information. Make, model and symptoms. Sit and watch and give us a blow by blow.
