Question

We are new to heat pumps and have a Coleman Evcon Presidential system. It has started clunking right after the fan shuts down. Any ideas as to where to start looking for the cause?

Which fan? indoor or outdoor? Sounds as though blower or fan prop is out of balance.

The indoor fan shuts off, and the outside compressor clunks right after.

Okay

Possible reasons>>>>>High head pressure, bad internal mounting spring, worn piston or rod bearing. If you are getting sufficient heat, you can probably rule out bad piston and/or valve.PDF

Thank you for your responses. It makes sense that it's something out of balance, or worn due to being unlevel. We just bought this house a few months ago, was told the heat pump was not level, had it levelled, and have just started using it to heat. We'll be calling for service. Your information should help us from getting raked over the coals for not knowing what could be wrong. Thanks again.

Good advice we'll take. Also, we realized we have a friend who is in the business, and will be able to get his help with this. Thankyou for your help and advice. Happy Holidays......KCG
