Furnace comes on but fan fails to start unless run in manual mode

Our furnance is approximately 18 years old. It is a York but I am not sure of the model. My furnace will start up via the thermostat but the fan will not start in the auto mode. I replaced the thermostat to another one thinking that it could be the problem but nothing changed with the new thermostat.

If I slide the button to manual the fan will run and heat comes out at a normal volume.

What might be my problem...would prefer to repair this myself if possible.

Most furnaces that age have the fan controlled through a timer on the circuit board. If that's the case, you'd find the wires to the fan motor connected to the circuit board.

If that's the case, it sounds like you have a bad circuit board that needs to be replaced.

You might want to post the make and model of the circuit board here.
