Question

We have a 250 gallon oil tank. We seem to burn through the tank in about 3 weeks (we're in metro Boston). Is this a normal amount of time? We keep the house between 60-65 degrees. Given the high cost of heating oil at this time, we'd like to make use of any energy-saving ideas. We've already plastic-sealed the windows and shut the storm windows. Any other ideas?? Thanks

WOW!!!!!!!

That seems like too much with tstat set that low. When your oil company tuned your system this fall did they find anything unusual?Do you use oil to heat your hot water? How many occupants are there? How old is your home? What are the insulation factors? What was your usage last year?Check Globe or Boston Herald for degree days it will tell you if degree days for this year are below norn and your oil consumption goes up with it.PDF
