Replacing an old oil-fired steam boiler

Is it cheaper to replace an old oil-fired steam boiler with an equivalent gas one or a new oil-fired one? Are operating costs any different?

I haven't checked the price of equipment lately but gas fired boilers are often less expensive than oil fired. In many areas the local gas utility offers some sort of discount on the equipment &/or installation for switching to natural gas. You would have to find out the cost of each fuel in your area & based on estimated useage calculate the operating costs.
