Question

My furnace (25 yr oil burner) has started rumbling when it starts up. Sometimes the vibrations are pretty bad, sometimes not. I just had it serviced (new nozzle, new filter, cleaned) about a month ago. I do know the ignition transformer is weak. Any ideas as to what might be going on and what I can do to fix it? Also, I am looking at replacing this beast this summer. What are some thoughts about the duel fuel furnaces (oil/wood)? Thanks.

Smile Thanks...

Thanks, I thought that was the problem but the transformer is about $250.00 so I wanted to get some other opinions first. That price is what the repairman gave me so I will look for a cheaper one. Thanks again.

$65.00 bucks for a carlin 14,000 v... and rummbling is caused by weak transformer.... some times you can help them along by getting the points alittle bit closer together...or call RE Michels in Ashtabula, Columbus, or Youngstown....

What it sounds like to me is that something is not set up
right on your oil burner. Have the ignition transformer changed($65.00 sounds right). Have the serviceman check the porcelins for cracks, set the ignitors correctly, make
sure the unit does not have too much combustion air(which
can make it start hard), nozzle is correct for the unit, and have the pump pressure checked. When he is done, have
him set the unit up with combustion test instruments. If
you call the service company and explain that it hasn't been running correctly since it was cleaned, you may just
have to pay for parts. GOOD LUCK!!
