Amana 90 Erratic Blower Motor

We have an Amana 90 gas forced air furnace that's 12 years old. The system has two zones: one for the upstairs and one for the lower level. For a couple of years (!) the following problem has been occurring. On a daily basis the blower motor will come on and run for quite a while....sometimes for an hour and a half. This happens with either the AC (in summer) or furnace (in winter). Neither zone thermostat is calling for either heat or AC, meaning that the AC compressor is not running and/or the furnace burners are also not on. This occurs even when the thermostat is shut off. I can turn the blower off using the wall switch by the furnace, but when I flip it back on the blower starts running again. After running for a while, the blower shuts itself off as mysteriously as it came on. The system is keeping the house cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Any ideas? Thank you.

thermostat may be set to on during a certain time of day in the programming if your thermostat allows for that (some do)

This happens erratically, meaning that it doesn't occur at any set time during the day, so it would seem that it's independent of any thermostat setting or program. Thanks.

3 possible causes.... shorted thermostat wiring or bad zone board or bad blower motor relay.

Can a non professional HVAC person check out these three things or do you need a contractor?

you can check some things.... but the blower must be acting up at that time. To start with when this is happening you would remove the wire from G at the furnace control board.
