Exclamation Gas Furnace won't turn off

Hello> I'm renting this home and the furnace won't turn off when it reaches the temperature set on the analog t87 thermostat. I replaced the thermostat with another analog one thinking the former was faulty, but the same problem continues. It doesn't matter where I set the t-stat to the furnace runs until I manually turn it off at the t-stat. I notice a low voltage transformer which the two wires from the t-stat runs to and then it goes to another box and another box on the side of the gas furnace by armstrong with a model number of 5601A-G2-105; the octopus kind of furnace.
Hopefully with the above information you can point me in the right direction to troubleshoot the problem. I assume its not the t-stat but maybe the low voltage transformer or one of the two other boxes I see the wires from the t-stat running to. Thanks in advance, any further clarification please don't hesitate to ask.

You, as a renter, should not have to repair a problem like that.

It could be shorted thermostat wiring or a defective control.
