noisy furnace (carrier)

My carrier gas furnace had recently developed a nasty vibration and loud humming sound when the inducer motor comes on.
does anyone know what may be causing this? any tips towards a remedy that doesnt include a costly technician would be greatly appreciated!

Noises can not really be diagnosed over the internet. Having said that, the likely solution is to replace the inducer assembly yourself and not use a technician.

As a layman, common sense would tell me to look at the motor mounts for wear or loose nuts/bolts, belts (if applicable), motor itself for wear and the fan cage for dirt and debris or out-of-balance.

I'd start by checking the voltage being applied to the inducer motor, which ought to be about 120 VAC.

On most Carrier furnaces it's pretty easy to remove the inducer motor assembly by removing a few bolts. Pull the inducer motor assembly out and inspect for broken fan blades, a motor that doesn't turn freely or other issues. Power up the inducer motor and see if it's the motor or fan causing the problem.

It might be a plugged up heat exchanger or drainage system (on condesning furnaces) if the inducer assembly is OK.

My 8 year old Carrier gas unit starting do this. The repairman is out here now
replacing the motor. Motors just wear out with age. The motor is lube free so
the lack of lubercating the motor is not th fault.

Lucky Carrier gave me a 10 year service contract that covers parts and labor for
10 years. This came with the 8,000.00 price of the unit.

I guess you should get one for that price.

My heating company gives excellent service they were here 1 hour after I called and this is the day after Christmas.

No I am not related just praising a good job.
