Rheem Classic 90 Plus gas furnace. MDL: RGRA-06EMAES blower fan noise

Hi,

The blower fan is making noise and is getting worse. I've taken the front bottom cover off and wiggled the fan. There is alot of side to side movement. Are there any bearings on the fan itself, or are they just in the motor? I'm not sure if I should order just the motor, or the fan itself. Would it be better to order it as a complete assembly? Thank you.

What kind of noise?

Where does the movement you describe take place --- the fan motor shaft, the fan itself or what.

You need to be a careful and detailed observer of what is happening.

You comments are vague.

I pulled the blower unit out far enough to see inside the squirrel cage. The motor shaft has no side to side movement. The shaft does move very slightly in and out of the motor. The squirrel cage is tight on the motor shaft. The noise is a low rumble when the fan turns on and goes away when it is up to speed (about 2 - 3 sec.). There is no noise during operation or when the fan turns off. I can feel a vibration in the blower assembly through my hand that corresponds to the noise. I didn't find any loose blades or debris in the fan.

Yep, sounds like you'd need to replace the motor to get rid of the noise.
