Oil furnace - running but no heat

Our oil furnace makes a humming noise for 15 seconds or so. Then a minute or two later the furnace seems to kick on, but no hot air is blowing. It is blowing cold air. It runs for about a minute and shuts off. Does this once every 20 minutes or so. There is oil and the ducting coming from the furnace is hot. It is also warm in the closet where the furnace is. So seems like there is heat and the blower (?) is working but it is not blowing hot air.

will have technician out tomorrow (after the holiday) but was wondering if anyone had suggestions.

Did you check the return air filter ?

Technician was here. It needed a new motor. Have service contract, so no charge

central home oil heater, pump cavitating, what to do?

I had to move the tank 3 feet further down towards ground. So, now the heater pump needs to pull fuel up 3 more feet. There was already a long distance from tank to pump. About 40 feet. The tank was at the same height as the pump. fuel got pulled up about 5 feet, over about 30, then down about 5 feet. Its been working like this for 26 years. However, I had to move tank down 3 feet. So, its now pulling up 8 feet, then over 30 feet, then down 5 feet. However, now it keeps cavitating. What to do? Last resort is to move the tank back up. Someone said a small low pressure automotive fuel pump mounted at the tank to push the fuel. This work? tks. paRead More

Furnace recently installed. Payne model PG8J. Shows code 33 (Limit Switch Open) then changes to code 13 (Lock-out). Found dirty filter and changed. Now does not go into lock-out; however, still shows code 33. Furnace runs and heats for approx 3 minutes then flame shuts-off while blower continues to run for an additional 3 minutes; then flame reignites and furnace heats for 3 minutes then cycles off with blower on for 3 minutes, etc. This on/off cycle repeats continuously until temperature reaches set point on thermostat. Removed Blower Box cover and furnace ran normally for 15 minutes with no cycling problem. There are two return air ducts: one to the only downstairs room (wall) and one to the upstairs main hallway (ceiling) which do not appear to be restricted. Both ducts combine to one at the furnace box and enter into a hole beneath the upright furnace. The blower motor is perpendicular to the hole with the blower opening actually facing the sheet metal side of the furnace box (a few inches away from the metal). The blower does not face the bottom where the return duct enters. 1. My question is does the fact that the furnace appears to work fine with the blower cover removed conclusively point to a return air issue? 2. If there are in fact no restrictions in the return ducts, is duct sizing then a potential issue? 3. Is there any issue with the duct entering the bottom of the furnace rather than the side? 4.
