xr80 won't ignite

I have an xr80 trane that is having an indicator flash of 5 times. Since my manual says that means flame is sensed when no flame should be present - I took out the flame sensor arm and carefully sanded it with steel wool. I replaced this sensor just a few months ago. Anyway - once I replaced it all clean and shiney it continues to do the following: I turn on the t-stat, then the glow rod comes on bright, the blower comes on and then it just doesn't ignite - so the glow goes off and the blower stays on. It sounds like there is a feeble igniter/spark sound but nothing is happening. Thanks for any advice.

a five flash is usually a false code and a bad control board, but the sequence you speak of should not happen with that fault code.

Describe in order and in detail the sequence of events which occurs whn you turn up the thermostat.

The sequence you describe is likely to be wrong or incomplete.
