since 12/12 my furnace has been exhibiting these symptoms, first the motor would jam, as if were stuck. I got my hands on a used one, and replaced it. Now,it lites up the burners and they burn for thirty minutes then they go out for thirty minutes, then come on again, then go out, and on and on. I havent had sufficient heat for weeks help! I should have wrote here before, but I tried one of you guys via email. I hope that I can find this website again so that I can get answers to my questions and get heat. peace!

I am assuming that you changed the blower motor. Is it running in the correct direction? There may be an arrow on the blower housing to check.

Question furnace problems

good question. I did'nt know it could spin in more than one way. I just went down stairs to check and this is what happened. (My initial problem was the motor seeming to get stuck when it tried to rotate, I knew this because of the noise I heard and when i put my hand into the squirrel cage. This why I changed the motor, but the one I put in is doing the same thing. The only difference is that since that motor is bigger it can start on its own sometimes.) So, when i started it this time it stuck so gave it a push up and it went that way. I stopped it and started it again and pushed it in the way of the arrow. I then again stopped it and started it to see how it wold choose, it wouldnt. It only buzzes and seems to want to spin but in no certain direction. Oh, by the way I found out why it keeps going off and on. I knew that something had to be telling it "it was too hot" So I'm reading this sticker that says that the furnace has a emergency cut off that is activated if the furnaces burner compartment reaches a certain temp. So I guessed that when then blower cooled it back down it came back on and so on. I thought to myself that if its doing that, that my blower wasnt keeping the burner's compartment cool enough for the burners to effectively heat the house, so I changed the speed using the extra blue wire coming from the motor and now my fire stays on until the house reaches the desired temp. and operates normal. Well besides the stupid stuck motor. And I sat with a cold house this long (12/6/00). I'm also glad I didnt pay someone to that small thing. I didnt give up! Finally what is the extra yellow wire's speed? THANKS FOR RESPONDING, PEACE!!!

The speed designation of the wires of your motor are on the motor. Usually yellow is a med. speed. Did you change the run capacitor? If not, do. If it is bad it will cause your motor syptom of humming and not turning till you give it a push.

Do yourself a favor. On my computer I set this sight to "FAVORITES".It is a lot easier to access.Other than heating and cooling there are a lot of professional people,in many catorgories of different subjects that you may find useful in the future.fjrachel is correct, the rotation HAS to be correct and we as TECHS always change or at least check run capacitor when we change a motor.PDF
