Goodman residential HVAC

I have a issue with my gas heat. When the thermostat is set to AUTO and on HEAT, the pilot doesn't kick off the flame. I see the Pilot is on and bright red/orange. Fan motor is running. But when I set it to ON position and on HEAT it runs fine. Do I need to replace my Thermostat? Could it be going bad? I haven't done any other troubleshooting as I am not sure what to look for.

Also to mention as I am a landlord of this property and I do not get much time to go onsite to troubleshoot. I recently purchased this property for investment.

If the blower fan is running on both setting(auto and ON) why doesn't the pilot ignite burners in Auto mode? Should I test the wires at thermostat? If yes, how do I go about doing that?
