Furnace in attic. What should I do?

I live in Pittsburgh in a cape cod with knee walls built on a concrete slab. Due to space limitations the previous home owner thought it would be a great idea to put the furnace in the attic. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? The unit is old from 1992. I'm thinking of taking this beast of of here and going with some type of newer ductless ac/heat pump for this small house. Please let me know what you think. Pictures are on another forum explaining the situation please see this link Insulate House Built On Concrete Slab. Electric attic furnaces are common.

All furnaces in newer (last 40 years) are in the attic here. Some are electric, some are gas. Often the water heater is also in the attic though garage is slightly more common for water heaters. Older than that sometimes in a closet in the house.
