Lennox Gas Fireplace wont stay lit!

I have a Lennox natural gas fireplace. It is a model number VF400cm-2 installed when our house was built in 2007. I usually cut of the gas and pilot each spring when the unit isnt needed anymore and then relight it in the winter months. This year I was able to relight the pilot like normal but when I turn the control knob to the "on" position the flame keeps going out. I can relight the pilot again in the pilot position but as soon as I turn it to "on" ... same thing? I was told it was probably a thermocoupler but on this particular unit the coupler and pilot come together as an assembly (pn# h4114) which the parts store says is about $170.00. Just looking for some confirmation from others before spending the money and throwing parts at it?

I can't seem to find a VF400 in the product list. Are you sure it's not VF4000-CMN-2 ?

If the pilot stays on with the button released but in the pilot position, the thermocouple is good.

Try leaving it in that position for a few hours to see if it stays on.

A dirty orifice can cause the pilot to go out, so don't change the thermocouple until you're sure that it's bad.
