Power robbing thermostat?
I'm unclear on the definition of power robbing thermostats. I have a Honeywell RTH8580WF1007 (Shop Honeywell 7-Day Touch Screen Programmable Thermostat with Built-In Wifi at Lowes.com) which requires the C-wire. The on-board battery is only used for memory backup. Initially I thought a power robbing thermostat was one that was powered by the furnace but did not have a C-wire. Is this true or am I mistaken?

There are thermostats that steal power from the wiring to power the thermostat.
However, most WiFi enabled thermostats require more power than can be stolen from the circuit.
Hence the requirement for the Common wire.
