Hi,
I have an American Standard Freedom 90 furnace, model number *DX-C. The blower started to squeak today and it does it for a minute or two every 30 minutes or so. I wanted to open up the furnace and pull the blower out to clean and oil it but it doesn't seem to be an easy way to access it.
Any ideas? Is this even something I can do it myself?
Thank you
Virgil

First, make sure you disconnect power to the unit before opening it up. You don't want to have your fingers in the blower when the thermostat turns it on. Blowers can be annoying to access sometimes and there is really no magic wand. Before going to the trouble of removing it though I would spin it by hand and listen for it dragging metal to metal. There is usually a certain amount of play (in/out) in the motor shaft so try pushing the blower all the way in one direction, turn it and listen for scraping. Then push it completely in the other direction and repeat. Motor bushing wear can allow it to move more over time and sometimes the blower can loosen from the motor's shaft as they are usually held in place by a couple set screws.
