Question Does PSE&G Update Old Gas Meter For Free?

Does anyone know if PSE&G will update my old gas meter for free and allow them to read the gas from outside of my house without needing to come into my basement?

My father was over doing some work on my house and the PSE&G guy came to read the gas meter. My dad said the PSE&G guy said that they can replace the gas meter and have the meter reading be outside by the electric meter.

I'm not sure if this is 100% accurate; I'm going to call PSE&G to confirm, but does anyone have any experience in knowing if this is true or not?

Thank you!

doubt it ...they are taking over LIPA out here on the island and that reading meters from the street are a big installation..water company did the covers to scan over but still have to get out of the truck
