Furnace Fails Every Few Days
Hello all,
I keep my thermostat at 66 during the day and 58 at night. For the last couple of weeks, the furnace has been failing to heat to 66 in the morning. This doesnt happen every morning. It's been about every three days or so. This never happens during the day when the furnace is maintaining 66.
On the mornings when it has failed, I get the error code for "ignition lockout due to retries." Cycling the power to the furnace resolves the issue, the house warms up to 66 and its good for another three days or so.
Tonight, I'm planning to open it up and try to debug the issue. I'm going to clean the flame sensor and check the ground connection on the ignitor board. But, I wanted to see if anyone had any other suggestions. The intermittent nature of the problem and the fact that it only happens at night seem strange to me.
Thanks for the help!

Cleaning the flame sensor rod would be the best place to start.
Also.... observe the furnace in operation. The rod must be in the flame.
You could possibly have a dirty/rusty burner issue where some of the ports are plugged.
