Leaking oil - scam or no scam - Need help.

Boiler service guy came to do regular cleaning maintenance on my oil burner. Now my boiler is leaking oil. First service guy said its a process of elimination to figure out where it is leaking. 4 free service calls later they are saying it's the fuel pump that is leaking and needs to be replaced for $450.00 (Beckett clean cut A2EA-6502 4 gph 100-150 psi 3450 rpm made by suntec) I went online and this part is under 100.00 am I being taken for? What should be the appropriate cost for replacement?

It should take less than 1/2 hour to replace the pump unless it is in a really tough place to work. That pump probably costs your service company between $50 & $75.

You're paying for their expertise and labor to install this and warrant it. Expensive? Yes. Can you do it yourself and be sure you do it correct?

There is no such thing as a free service call, someone has to pay the technician and provide his truck, fuel, insurance, etc. and you had 4 of them. Part of the repair cost is paying for at least a portion of the cost of those "free service calls."

Grady is correct. Figure they're going to get a minimum of an hour anyway. I would guess your looking at about 150.00 for the complete job, depending on their hourly rate charge.
