Goodman GMP

I have a goodman gmp heater for a 2 story house. My heat downstairs stopped working, but upstairs works fine. No code lights come on the heater. Also, the fan downstairs only comes on if the thermostat is changed to cool and the temp is droppod. Any advise will be much appreciated! It was 54 deg. in my house this am.
Many thanks.

Welcome to the forums.

Does that mean you have two furnaces.... one upstairs and one downstairs ?

If you know where the trouble LED is and it's not on... you may have a board failure.

Will the furnace heat if you connect the furnace red to the furnace white at the pigtails located just outside the furnace?

Thanks for the replies. I have 1 furnace that heats upstairs and downstairs. Upstairs is heated fine. Downstairs doesn't have any heat.
I'm not sure if it will heat if I connect those wires. I'll try it tonight when I het off work and let you know.
Thanks

If you have only one furnace and it is heating upstairs then that means the furnace is working fine. The furnace itself can't select which floor it heats. It could have a two zone air duct system but the furnace is still running.

Could the furnace be dead and the upstairs be heated by electric ?

Maybe. We've only been in the house for about a year. The house was built in '98.
How do I find out if upstairs is electric and the furnace is dead?

Okay, I found the pc board and jumped the r and w wires and my heater came on. I took off the jumper and went to the thermostat. I jumped the wires on the thermostat and the heater came on. Does this mean the thermostat is messed up? If so, how do I know what to replace it with?
Thanks

You shouldn't need anything fancy.
Can you post what colors are on what terminals of your current thermostat ?

R = red
W = white
x = x
x = x

R - red, y/y12 - yellow, g - green, c - blue, w/w1 - blue.
Ok, I went to Lowes and the guy there recommended a digital one that was on sale pretty cheap. I have a digital one now, so thats cool. I hooked up the new thermostat and nothing comes out of the vent. I tried turning the heat off and fan on. Air comes out. A buddy of mine said it might be the board or capacitor. Is this right? If so, how do I know which one is bad?

Ok.....the other day you connected red and white and the heater worked..... right ?
So ... that would tell you that there isn't a problem at the furnace.

Please turn the power off to the furnace when working on the wiring so as not to hurt the control board or blow a fuse.

R = red
Y = yellow = Y2 ?
G = green
C = blue
W = blue ?? Do you mean white ?

Sorry, wrote the colors wrong.
R-red, y/y12-yellow, g-green, c-blue, w/w1-white.
Correct, i connected the red and white at the furnace and the heat came on. I took that jumper off, then went and jumped the red and white at the thermostat and the heat came on. I bought a new thermostat. Still no heat. The fan will come on only if i turn the heat off and fan on. If the heat is on, the fan will not come on.

You need to see if you have a wiring/thermostat problem or a furnace problem.

If you connect R and W and your furnace starts up.... you have a wiring/t'stat problem.

Since you jumped it at the furnace and it works..... you now know where to look for the problem.

I'm glad the furnace is working. At least you'll have heat.
