Summer/Winter Hookup Question

Hello all, new member here with a question concerning the domestic hot water coil on my oil fired furnace. Yesterday the coil took a dump, water all over the garage. In addition to no hot water I have no heat, which considering the weather isn't a good thing! If I didn't have a woodstove........My question is will a leaking coil cause the heat loop to lose pressure as well, or do I have a bigger problem than I initially thought? Thanks!

Shut off the make up water at the boiler feed.If the pressure goes up it's a bad coil.If it goes down it's a bad gasket.

Down it went, so it sounds like the gasket is the problem. Thank you!

Sometimes the bolts around the coil are loose and could use a good snug.If your lucky it could stop the leak with some heat of the boiler. The bolts could snap so you have to take care. The bolts should be checked every so often.Good luck.
