Unhappy Revere Glass lined Mor Flo Heater Corp. Cleveland, OH

Hello there, this is my first post, so I hope I don't sound too crazy. I have a hot water tank with a name on it of Revere Glass lined tank from the Mor-Flo Heater Corp. Cleveland, OH. The model number is GL40SMBDE and serial number is G1108332. Can any one tell me the age of this tank? It works great. I wanted a owners manual and wondering if this tank has a dip tube. Thanks for your time I appreciate it.

G in the serial # dictates 1990.... ( 23 yrs not bad... The mor flos lasted long)

It works great. I wanted a owners manual and wondering if this tank has a dip tube.

It has a dip tube on the inlet. You need to remove the nipple , or copper, remove the old and replace..

You'll be hard pressed to find a manual for it I believe...

In my honest opinion I would replace. The oldest mor flow I remember removing was 25 yrs old....

That is if the serial # is correct...You seem to be missing a letter.... The serial # rotates every 20 years..

That heater can be a 1970...

Take a pic ..I could tell by looking at it...

Question Revere Glass lined Mor Flo Heater Corp. Cleveland, OH

Hello there, I have a pic of the label so maybe you can tell more about it. This hot water tank sat unused and drained since about the 1980"s. I have no idea if that would effect it any. Does this tank have a dip tube, or is it too old? Thanks for all the information I really appreciate it.

Yeah.. Im thinking 1970 there to tell you the truth.. The 90's units had blueish tops on them...

As long as its drafting properly and not leaking I would keep it for bragging rights..

And not to sound corny but I would wipe it down real good and shine it up a bit...
( I really would throw a coat of wax on it if it were mine...)

If Im right its 44 yrs old.. I was 4 when that was installed...

Hello there, thanks for the quick response. My husband has intentions of using rubbing compound on it. He remembers that tank from the 70's when we rented there off my aunt for a few years. His mind is better than mine. It works good. Does this tank have a dip tube in it? Being that old I would imagine it needs a new one. This tank doesn't leak either. Must have been my lucky day. Lol. I would have been 15 when my aunt put that tank in. That is something to brag about.

Umm why do you want a dip tube again? I would not touch it really...

Are you running out of hot water?

If I had a heater like that and had to remove it, I would keep it and put it in my man cave... maybe make a lamp out of it....LOL

Also just from the draft hood ontop I know its not from my era of service work....

Hello again, thanks for the quick reply. We run out of hot water about 35 minutes later when showering. We just replaced a dip tube on another tank that was doing the same thing. We replaced the dip tube, cured the problem but the top was so rusty that it started to leak. So we replaced it with the Mor Flo. I see the Mor Flo has what I would consider a slow recovery rate. Thank you so much for your time I really appreciate the help.

35 minutes is a good shower time IMO... Its old so its probably loaded with sediment why the slow recovery... And no dont flush it... It will only start leaking I am sure...

IMO if your not happy with the performance replace it....
