Furnace turns on but no heat

My furnace has not been heating for the last couple days. My house is currently 59, so I tried turning the thermostat off to see what would happen, and while it was in the "off" position, the furnace turned back on. Sorry for the stupidness here, but does that mean my thermostat is shot, and needs replaced?

Did the fan and flames come on? This is a strange one.

The fans come on, but I didn't check to see if they flames come on, the one flame which I am assuming is the pilot light is on.

Post the make and model number of the furnace.

It would also help if you can reset power and watch the sequence of events as it tries to start and post this information.
