Rudd Heating Unit

I have a Rudd Achiever Super Quit 80. When the unit turns on the exhaust fan comes on, the electric igniter comes on, then the flame comes on, then goes out. I'm thinking the thermo coupling is out. Is there any way of checking it? Or any other ideas? Also the lights on the circuit board stay green. So no codes.

Your description sounds like a classic flame sensor problem. Locate the flame sensor and gently clean it with fine steel wool, a dry SOS pad, or similar. You just want to clean it up, not remove metal.

Ok thanks, Did that and it still shuts back off. So do I replace the flame sensor?

Any cracks in the porcelain part of the flame sensor? The should pass about 2-4 microAMPS when cleaned. Unless you have a meter that can do that, you can't test the flame sensor. Check for a break in the wire back to the controller as well, loose connection and so on.

Just moved in to a house with a duomatic furnace, had replace blowermotor ,to get to start .fired up and have heat put the blower keeps running.Tried resetting system and the exhaust stated, it fired up and the blowers still running.. any ideas?Read More

Yellow or Orange Spots Dancing off of outlet side of burners on Trane XR80

This is a Trane XR80, Model #TUD080C936K4 (that "4" could be a "Y", not sure). I bought a decent camera for closeups and video - now I just have to get used to taking it with me, or leaving it in the truck. Manuf. Date: 04/2004 My partner will be servicing this furnace, and hasn't seen it operating yet. I was called here for a different problem, then they told me they also had a furnace problem. The problem was that some had the gas supply line/ shutoff valve at the furnace turned off. The filter on this furnace was so covered with dirt that the air flow was apparently trying to push it out of its slot at the bottom-right of the cabinet. The filter slot was covered by a metal door flap on hinges. The burners lit up perfectly as far as I could tell (watched several videos of this type of furnace and its burners lighting up (but not this particular condition I'm posting about) . Quick for each burner to light up in succession, one after the other, sort of one fluid motion, left to right I believe. Perfect blue flames like the videos. No flame rolling back ward. The only thing I saw was occasional yellow or orange spots dancing upward off the outlet side of the burner tubes (venturis?). But they had so much stuff (clothing in plastic bags) stacked against the wall near this furnace, I barely had room to squeeze in, bending way over to look in at the flames ( told them to move all the stuff away from the furnace immediately). I couldn't see if those spots were coming off the end of the burner tubes or a very short distance after, but at least 3 of those burners (I couldn't guarantee that all of them weren't doing it intermittently) were doing it. Each one did not do it at a frequent interval. One spot would dance off one burner, the maybe the next one over right away, or the next two over would do it right away, then maybe back at left-most burner would do it right away again.
