Adding filter to Rheem Criterion ii gas furnace

My Rheem Criterion ii gas furnace comes with 2 thin permanent filters (part 54-24094-01) in V formation over blower. I want to add some filtering improvement as these seem inadequate - but also do not want to do anything that creates too much burden on the fan. Any ideas of a legit way to replace or add filtering? I've thought of even just adding the webbing type filter that you can cut to size.

Thanks

Do you have a/c? If not, the permanent filter should be okay - you're just trying to keep the blower wheel clean.

As long as those permanent filters are intact, they do a pretty good job of filtering. Since this would seem to be a downflow furnace, installing other filters would probably be a job for a professional.
