Oil Furnace trips

I have the burner cleaning service every year. It is a 1996 model. Latest service was done in December 2015. The burner started tripping in January. After first trip I reset it, it tripped after a week, then again after 3 days, now it trips daily.
The service guy without looking at it says, it needs ignition transformer replaced.
Any advice will be much appreciated.

What you are describing is pretty typical of a transformer getting weak but by no means carved in stone.
My question to him would be "how do you know without checking?". If his reply is something to the effect of "it was weak when I serviced it", you should ask why it wasn't replaced then or at least why you were not informed.
If he is going to charge you a service call plus the transformer, it is easy to do yourself. If you provide a make & model of the burner (not furnace), I can tell you which transformer you need. Generally about $35.

Is there a way to test if the transformer is getting weak?

If you are VERY careful & are not afraid of electricity, yes.

having same problem - having to reset burner

Last time my boiler shut down I checked the burner voltage at the honeywell aquastat and it was 120vac to the burner. I feel comfortable checking the transformer, how do I go about it. What would be the xformer part number, I may just replace it. Beckett burner, model AFG series. There is a id sticker on the top of the xformer, but everything has rubbed off, no writing on it.

Before throwing parts at it, I'd like to confim if it is indeed an ignitor (transformer) problem. Can you post a couple of pictures of the entire front of the boiler along with make & model?
