Furnace Filter
I have carrier furnace that has a defunct electronic air cleaner, which I understand can't be fixed because the parts are not available, and it only operates at 20% percent efficiency. My question is how do I measure the space to install a regular filter? Thanks very much!

If the electronic is one of the thick (4 or 5"), you can usually just remove the cells & replace with a 4 or 5" pleated paper filter. To determine what size to get, remove the cells & measure the depth of the cavity then measure the height & a filter which will fit. Be sure to disconnect the power to the electronic when using a paper filter.

It is an oddball size 18 x 28 x 6.....I put in an 20 x 25 x 5. I cut the 20" side down a little, the 25" side leaves a slight gap for air to slip by. And 5" vs 6" is not an issue.
