How to break 2.5 inch steam pipe

I am trying to remove a oil-fired boiler and I can't break the 2.5 inch steam pipe joint made of steel using a 36 inch pipe wrench. Any ideas?

You need a 2.5" extension(cheater) on the 36" wrench.

Place a large hammer on one side of pipe holding it as a 'dolly' and use another hammer on opposite side to 'jar' loose the rust in threads. Work your way around the pipe. A judicious pounding will break it loose and then your 36" pipe wrench should do the trick (if you are heavy/stout enough)

Have used this trick for 60+ years and it works.

PJmax; is 2.5" cheater going to help at all? Maybe a 4' one.

2.5" in the diameter...... several feet in the length.

Cheaters are used, but are dangerous. Not recommended. Try heating the female connection with a torch.
