Cleaning The Blower Blades

Coleman 7975A856 natural gas mobile home furnace.

After cleaning/vacuuming would it be a good idea to spray the blades with silicone spray or would that just attract more dust? Finally bought some 18x36x1 filters so I thought I'd clean it up first.

Thanks

Personally, I would not try to coat the blades with anything. Just clean them up - if they are really dirty, and change the filter - on a regular basis.

I agree.

Fans really shouldn't need to be cleaned if a filter has been used regularly.

If you had significant accumulations of dust and dirt, I'd consider where that may have come from.

That's the problem...I'm a little slow. Bought the furnace in 88 and it didn't come with a filter so I just bought 48 filters from Amazon.

So I'll just brush and vacuum.

Thanks

If you have air conditioning, there is probably an AC coil in the furnace which can get plugged up with dust and dirt as well. Inspect that and clean it as needed as well. A dirty AC coil will impair the air flow through the furnace and reduce the efficiency of your AC system.

No central AC, just a thru-the-wall unit for the kitchen and front room. I don't know why it took me all this time to think of just using a regular furnace filter that covers the whole door but here we are.

Thanks
