Using a barrel that had ATF in it to haul fuel to tank

I have gotten a free 55 gallon barrel that had ATF in it and I use off road diesel for my furnace and I want to use the barrel to haul it. Do I need to clean it out or can I just put the diesel in and use it? There isn't much left of ATF in the barrel

I would clean it with some kerosene. The ATF will burn but there might be some white smoke. Do you remember when auto transmissions had modulator valves? When they went bad the engine would suck the fluid from the transmission & clouds of white smoke would appear.

Just use it if the ATF isn't dirty. It will burn right along with the diesel.
Actually I add ATF to my tractor diesel as a pump lubricator since the sulfur has been removed from diesel.

RR, I have to do something similar with my 2001 Cummins, but I buy Walmart brand 2 cycle oil and put one ounce per gallon of fuel. It is to preserve the lubricity of the fuel. I say run it with the diesel, as long as it is clean.
