Question

Sorry...don't know the specs on my central A/C unit, but here's the question. Just bought the house, and tried testing the A/C. When I turn the temp down on the thermostat, the unit blower comes on, and the central A/C unit "kick" on, and hums, but the big fan in the unit doesn't turn. It is rather cool outside...only in the 50's, so I don't need the air, just want to know if it works. Thanks so much!

Taking a quess????????

The big fan you talk about is the fan blade outside? If so take something you can stick through the fan guard and see if you can rotate the blade manually. If not the bearings are shot. How long did you allow unit to run?I have seen a/c's with a fan cycling control installed to start and stop fan due to low ambient temps.PDF
