K-1 kerosene heater blowing thick black smoke out the top
For the past couple years I've run for an hour or so here and there to get extra heat (not even a full tank burned through this whole time)
The other day it wouldn't light up, saw the tank was nearly empty, filled the tank, fired her up, black smoke out the top and wouldn't stop.
Turned her off, turned down the dial, fired it up again, more black smoke coming out the top and wouldn't stop...is it salvageable or is it dunski?

I had an original KeroSun that looked just like that..... without the safety birdcage.
I noticed mine would smoke when it got low on kero. If it got real low I'd have to fill it and allow the wick to re-saturate for several hours in the lowest position before lighting.
You also want to use fresh clean K-1 kerosene. If it's from last year it may have caused the wick to gum up. Wicks are fairly inexpensive and not hard to change.
Make sure the wick isn't too high. You can start it lower and then raise it as it gets hot.
